Four New Blends | Wayward Gourmet

Liz and I have been extremely hard at work developing 4 new blends that are now available in our online store. What's best is they're all on sale to celebrate their arrival!  Here's what we've been up to:

  • Five Alarm Frenzy: Every since we started, we have been constantly asked for a hot and spicy blend. Of course, many of our blends have various hot peppers and spices in them such as Maple Chipotle Mashup, Yes We Mexi-Can, and Sweet Heat, we didn't have a blend that was specifically for those hot-blooded fanatics out there. Enter Five Alarm Frenzy. This blend gets its heat from 4 sources: Hill Country Chili Powder, Ground Chipotle Pepper, Ground Black Pepper, and Ground Aleppo Pepper. Each pepper compliments the other to really round out the flavor. Make no mistake, you're going to feel the burn, but you're also going to get an awesome flavor that works extremely well on wings, ribs, chili, or any other dish you're looking to kick up a few notches.
  • Apple of My Pie: Liz is defiantly the baker between the two of us. I'm actually quite spoiled in that she's constantly making delicious pastries, breads, pies, and cakes.  And because it's just the two of us (minus 2 cats and a dog) we don't have to share any of it! She has really been carrying the torch for an apple pie spice blend that works to flavor the filling of an apple pie, is great as a topping on oatmeal, or simply sprinkled on popcorn to give it an apple pick-me-up.  This one took a while to develop as we had to go through a lot of apple pies (twist my arm) to get the flavor just right.  The blend of cinnamon, sugar, nutmeg, ginger and lemon zest and butter powder has a delicious flavor that really warms the soul.
  • Gone Fishin': "Something for fish" is a blend we often get requests for as well. We usually reply with the fact that Maple Chipotle Mashup is our favorite on grilled salmon and, despite the name, Nobody Calls Me Chicken is amazing on shrimp or anything that swims.  That being said, we definitely wanted to create a more herb-based blend that specifically complimented fish. This blend has more herbs and spices than any of our blends: basil, thyme, celery seed, oregano, parsley, garlic, sage, marjoram, dill, lemon peel to name just a few. The combination of these flavors is bright, unique and delicious. We're super excited for you to get cookin' with it!
  • Bacon Donut Bonanza: Last, and certainly not least is my labor of love.  I was really itching for a blend that was as out of the box as I could get, without being completely off the deep end.  Bacon Donut Bonanza combines the sweetness of cocoa, brown sugar, honey and cinnamon, with the smokiness of applewood smoked sea salt and just a hint of smoked paprika.  The result left us speechless as we sprinkled some on brownies, mixed a little into our oatmeal, and got our hands dirty eating popcorn. It's a delicious chocolate bacon fix without the guilt of eating the real thing. I'm getting hungry just writing about it.

So there you have it. Four new blends that took us many months of testing, trial and error. We're super excited for you to try them out and look forward to hearing what you think! We'll keep you posted on new recipes featuring our blends so keep your eyes peeled.
